After a long Lebaran holiday, this week’s progress focuses on sections as well as finishing up the lighting. I was told to do sections for the overall canteen and the pantry. This is what I learned during college called 'Interior Technical Drawings'. For most people, it is a very boring part of the design process but is actually an important one. For me though, I personally really like doing technical drawings as most of the time I feel that it gives a different kind of excitement. The result is very satisfyingly neat.
SUDDEN
On Thursday at 11, Mr. Prama asked me to have a zoom meeting. I was told that the lighting plan and schedule had to be done by 12 to be given to the contractor. Thankfully, I did everything and all the progress is done. So what's left is the minor revisions and I submitted it on time.
IMPORTANCE OF LIGHTING
Lighting is a very important aspect as it enhances a space to create an appealing mood and ambiance. Lighting matters a lot in an interior. Natural light is definitely the best kind of light; it's able to create an ambiance by setting a change of mood, naturally. But, having artificial light is also important in creating a feeling of space; Task, Ambient, Accent, and Decorative Lighting.
LIGHTING USED FOR THE PROJECT
Gaharu canteen has a lot of natural lighting, but artificial lighting is still needed obviously. The canteen consists of 6 different light source type giving different effects;
- The track light is used for task and general lighting throughout the whole canteen.
- LED Strip acts as an indirect general and accent lighting (for the pantry cabinet and counters).
- The different pendants that act as a task and decorative lighting and gives a different kind of ambient from the light produced.

THE SECTION

The section will expose but also detail door, windows, changes in floor heights or ceiling heights, and in some cases, finish material location. The section is an important technical drawing as it clarifies and illustrates in a very clear way.
At first, during my study in college, technical drawings of constructions seem difficult to understand and quite boring. But after learning thoroughly, understanding its importance, and gaining a lot of construction knowledge, it becomes fun and satisfying to make.
Even in real life, it is very important to show the details of measurements, materials for the contractor to build, as it makes it easier for them to understand. Technical drawings are the very thing that both the parties (designer and contractor) can connect and understand one another while working together.
Being an interior designer is not only as simple designing a space period; but it is also about understanding construction, communicating to contractors and engineers is also a plus point that is very important ahead. At the end of the day, everything has its own purpose and importance. Don't underestimate any little thing you learn and all the knowledge you get every step of your journey.
