Week 12 - Dig Deeper.

Updated: Jul 1, 2020

This week is a step towards getting to know the style deeper and applying it to the Moroccan bedroom design. In order to know and understand more about how applying the characteristics will suit the best to the bedroom; research, trials, and errors are needed. Throughout my research and further consultation with Mr. Prama, I've discovered a few distinct characters that represent Moroccan interior style.

ELEMENTS

Moroccan structures use lots of curves or arches. During my research, 90% of the time, sweeping curved backdrop or entryways and grand arches are used very often. It could be a great idea to make it a statement feature.

The application of the sweeping curved backdrop on the bedroom that I designed are seen on the statement or focal point of the bedroom, behind the bed. It is complimented the arches wall paneling with a unique pattern and black wall lamp to keep it modern in a classical house.

PATTERNS

Instead of geometric or simple patterns, the Moroccan style is most likely using many Islamic 'lattice' pattern, with lots of repetitions and rhythmic curves throughout.

By adding these patterns into space, it gives a totally different look to an interior making it particularly edgy and gives the feel of authentic Moroccan.

LAMPS

Moroccan lighting or lamps have a very different character that has an Arabic feeling with metal and decorative carvings. The lighting effect provides emitted shadow pattern.

Gold or silver metal lamps will definitely show Moroccan style. Applications in the bedroom are seen on floor lamps, using metal with complicated and intricate structures.

SOFA SET REPLACEMENT

Mr. Prama suggested "Lesehan" (sitting on the floor and eating it on a low table) as a character in the bedroom to distinguish it from other bedrooms and to provide a Middle Eastern vibe, rather than a basic sofa set (sofa, armchairs and a coffee table). I think this is a good idea! I also added the Moroccan pouf as an alternative seating option. And at the end of the week, I gave 3 choices of color scheme combinations, but the final choice had not been decided yet.

Researching certain styles and trying new things is important in interior design to gain more knowledge and create more ideas in designing space. But this is not the end, I still have to dig deeper, and try to develop more. Stay tuned with next week's blog post for further updates for the Moroccan bedroom.
