About the Company.

Before I start, let me rewind back a bit. From the first time Mr. Prama teaches as a part-time lecturer, I've always liked the way he thought us and how he communicates. He was a bit quiet the first time during the 'creativity & concept' class. After design studio 4 though, one of the last huge modules before internship, I felt comfortable with his feedback throughout the term and gotten plentiful knowledge that I consider to be really useful for future experiences. METR Design has also done some projects that I really liked, and I feel that I can learn more from the company,- I'm delighted that I made the right decision to do an internship at METR Design.

COMPANY PROFILE

METR Design is a Jakarta based design consultant with a commitment to quality design and practical solutions. It was established in 2010 by Bayu Riyadi & Prama Milyardi, which both went to AA London to gain their master’s degree. The company provides thoughtful, creative & profitable architecture and interior design through a client-centered, multi-disciplined process. HOW IT ALL STARTED

a little bit history of how metr design became a company.

METR Design used to be called Alur Design in which there were 4 co-founders,- Mr. Prama, Mr. Bayu, and two other partners, all friends of Mr. Prama. They established the company together after graduating their university in London. But eventually after experiencing working together, the team decided to go their seperate ways due to differences in decision making. Mr. Prama and Mr. Bayu decided to start fresh and made a new company called METR Design.

"Business that comes from friendship doesn't last longer than friendship that comes from a business" applied in reality as Mr. Prama & Mr. Bayu started out as business partner.

FOUNDERS PROFILE

METR Design team is composed of creative, innovative, and communicative individuals who share a fascination for their work. Meeting the daily challenge and succeeding in their work is only possible with a team that shares enthusiasm which is built on the basis of friendship and mutual trust.

Mr. Bayu Riyadi finished his bachelor of Architecture from Istitut Teknologi Bandung (ITB). He then has involved in Pacific Place development in SCBD Jakarta and DP Architects Singapore, before obtaining his Master of Arts in Housing and Urbanism from the AA school, London.

Mr. Prama Milyardi graduated from the Architecture Department of Universitas Indonesia. He then joined the post tsunami rehabilitation process in Aceh as a part of GTZ - a Germany NGO. Subsequently, he finished his master course from the AA school, London, with MA in Housing and Urbanism.

VISIONS AND MISSIONS

The company's vision as being the prominent player in the field of architecture and interior design to not only designing space, but designing an experience that enhances the quality of life and addresses important issues through responsible built environment. And the company's mission is as creativity is always a goal, METR concentrate first and foremost on resolving key functional planning challenges, all the while incorporating architectural creativity to each evolving design solution. By embracing the singularity of each project, METR develops creative solutions that address the specific requirements the project, with equal regard to budget, operational efficiency, long-term maintenance, environmental responsiveness and compliance.

ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

METR Design company employ a very neat and simple system of flowing of information between rules, roles and responsibilities within the company to achieve goals. All the employee or designers that work in METR Design work directly under both, Mr. Bayu & Mr. Prama. Me, as an internee, I work directly under Mr. Prama.

unique selling point

The principles of METR Design tend to be very good in communication, showing their worth as a principle of the company, and as designers, it can be harnessed as a unique selling point as marketing themselves. In terms of design, the company is very likely to be able to show their design skills and knowledge applied to the design process and the professionalism clearly, but not only that, the company thought about the functionality and durability as well, as much the aesthetic point of view for each of their projects.

The company usually decide on choosing the client by,- how interesting the project is in a long term, the budget of the project (whether it matches to their overall budget, considering the worth), and the client's personality is really important too. The firm is more likely to work with communicative and understanding clients, but if not, the company usually increases the budget and take on the project depending on how interesting it is despite encountering some challenging clients. The company does not have preference of age range, there is no distinctive age consideration.

achievements / awards

It was when the 4 of them first made established the company, there is a London Festival Architecture. They made an Indonesian pavilion and when they went back to Indonesia, their work was noticed and went to CASA Living magazine.

style of their design

More towards modern classical style, glamour or subtle luxury and heading towards a kind of tropical vibes, but it usually depends on the client. If the client's style and wants are too different with their own style, the company usually design a different interior style but still with their own preference with the aim to satisfy client’s needs and wants without decreasing the aesthetic and beauty of a space. compromise - current projects

Both the owners decided that each team member or employees for the salary to have a fixed amount monthly, so it is also easier to distribute as it is fixed. The amount of projects that the company got is usually depending whether who got the project who will make the most decision making and throughout the designing and supervision process they both compromise well with each other. METR Design has few on-going projects currently,-

- Residential Project in Royal Orchard, Kelapa Gading.

- 2 Hotel Projects near Thamrin city (On hold due to COVID-19)

- Gaharu Office Project in Jakarta Selatan
